Welcome to North East Scotland TREC (NEST)

We hope you find this website useful. We also use our Facebook page to promote events and share photos and experiences with other members Facebook page

NEST was started by a small group of  novice TREC enthusiasts in the winter of 2008/09 to learn more about the sport and to encourage its growth in the North East of Scotland. It has gone from strength to strength and  we currently have approximately 70 members. Some members are very competitive and have competed at the British Championships others are happy to potter along at their own speed, enjoying the ride.

NEST is a member club of TREC GB, the governing body for TREC in the UK.

TREC is a sport for all, any rider, any horse, any level. Something for everyone.

 We hold various events at all levels including training days, training competitions, mini events and full two day qualifier competitions. We are affiliated to TREC GB and hold competitions towards the national TREC GB league as well as our own NEST members league. We try to make events accessible to all,  and choose venues all over the North East from Huntly , Tomintoul  to Deeside and many places in between.

Over the winter we normally run a training session once a month and a winter series competition once a month mainly at indoor venues. These have been very popular and great fun.

In the summer we try to hold
an event 1-2 times a month, we have been fortunate to be able to access some spectacular farm land, forest tracks and beaches
.

We try to run a qualifier for the TREC GB National champions each year for those who would like to travel and compete at Championship level. It is still a fun social event for those that want to meet up with like minded people. With more members and helpers participating we are hoping to increase these events.

Placings for members from events attended during the year count towards our Points League, with trophies and prizes presented at the end of the year at the NEST Christmas Lunch, where we also run a raffle for local charities.

NEST also runs events to support the local RDA at Oyne.

28/03/24 Horses Flu requirements.  Just a wee reminder of the flu requirements for all NEST events as the club is affiliated to TREC GB. NEST hold their own database of members horses flu jabs. Admin ask for a copy of the passport to see updated flu jabs before the competition, if your horse is not on our database already or if our database shows that your horse was due for its jab. We do NOT have the resources to check on the day of the event. Please note that you will not be allowed to attend an event without providing this information beforehand and therefore will not be included in the times if we have not received the information asked for.

Note: vaccinations must be dated within twelve months for each year recorded on the passport, after the initial cycle of three injections were originally completed. For example, a horse vaccinated on 15th March one year needs to be vaccinated on or before 15th March the following year.

The following conditions also apply

  1. Horses that have received the first 2 injections are allowed to compete, provided that the 2nd injection was not given in the last 6 days before the event.
  2. Horses that have had their first booster or annual booster within the last 6 days of an event are NOT allowed to compete.
  3. Horses that are not vaccinated or their vaccination is out of date must commence a new programme of vaccinations. A new programme takes a minimum of 28 days before a horse can compete.
  4. Horses with several years of annual booster vaccinations may have errors in their record provided that;
    • The first two primary injections were administered correctly before 1st January 2019 and;
    • All annual boosters since 1st January 2019 are within time.

Note: TREC GB do not require 6 monthly vaccinations, however some venues/clubs do have additional requirements. If this is the case the schedule will specify the details.

TREC GB requires that organisers of any events, involving equines, insist that equine influenza vaccinations are up to date and to check passports before horses are unloaded. In order to assist organisers, TREC GB maintains a Flu Vaccination Register which is shared with organisers for the purpose of checking horse passport details in order to save time on competition days.
